Italy is probably the country with the greatest variety diversity. This country is known for its tasty and healthy food. Top quality is part of that. And with the growing importance of supermarkets, this is only increasing. We like to meet the challenge with new surprising products and, increasingly, with organic products. Of course, also of great quality. Quality for the professional grower, for the growing processing industry and of course for the consumer.

Successes

Success in Italy was quickly achieved, firstl through our distributor in the beginning of the 1980's and since 1988 through our subsidiary Enza Zaden Italia s.r.l. Especially in open field crops this subsidiary has established a good reputation as developer of quality varieties.
In tomato and cucumber we also attained some great successes. Lido and Carson, our green-shouldered tomato varieties especially bred for this specific market, are still leading varieties in their segment. And thanks to cucumber varieties such as Jazzer and Pontia, we are among the top seed companies on the Italian vegetable market.

Research & Development

We continuously strive improve our products and services. Our local team of researchers, technicians and sales people knows exactly how to translate future demands to market-attuned products. For this goal, we established two R&D stations: one on Sicily and one in Tarquinia. Since 2001, our R&D station on Sicily focuses on the development of pepper, tomato, eggplant and cucumber. In Tarquinia, where also our commercial office is situated, we breed in several typical Italian products, in fennel, radicchio and cauliflower in a modern, highly technological advanced centre.
