The plants were still strengthen enough despite of increasing fruit load caused by the sunny weather conditions in March. It was important to take this into account to maintain the balance at the crop. Certainly at the crops where is kept more space at the stem distance. In general this is succeeded well and the plants have an enough generative head. The fruit weight was still rather low at the start of the season. This is normalized in the meantime and there is an average of 8 or 9 trusses of perfect quality in a box.
The advised temperatures at the moment are: pre-night 15 degrees, latter part of the night 17 degrees and 21 degrees during the day. At bright weather conditions the temperature may increase to 25 degrees. When the head becomes heavier it is advised to extend the day temperature until an hour after sunset. An average-24-hour-day-temperature of 21 degrees was reached at the sunny days of last week. Some growers are using a (short) pre-night of 14 degrees to get thick fruits. Be careful with this in reference to sized flowers. To start ventilation in time, sufficient activity is achieved and leaf burning is prevented.
Furthermore we advise to take out a leaf at the top of the plant and depending on the weather conditions an EC of 3 – 3.3 is recommended.
